I have always liked the dark, but rather warm nights of September and October. Somehow the darkness is very inviting. Rain and falling leaves make it more beautiful and dramatic. I like to spend a lot of time outdoors with my camera, bicycling around, hopping over fences, shooting video clips and photos while listening to … Read more
Incision is from our 2017 album, Transplant. We are on a mission to create lyric videos to songs that don’t have any kind of visuals yet. Incision has been a fan favorite ever since it was released, but we left it unplayed for quite some time. At some point I wrote very long lyrics, and … Read more
I bicycled to PihkaSound to rehearse a song with the Unzyme producer Lasse Turunen. I was just about to get back home, when I noticed that my bike had a flat tire. I decided to walk back home and shoot some video footage on the way back. Most of the time I was on the … Read more
Misconstructed is one of the less performed tracks from Transplant, along with Incision. Misconstructed is a tough track to play live, because it’s so frantic and misconstrued, like its title. But it was lots of fun to compose. There is a healthy dose of The Prodigy in this track – Keith Flint would’ve had his … Read more
Lie down in debris is so much fun to play live. I’ve always felt that we play rock music, even though the instrumentation and stylistic choices are very much electronic. There’s a good amount of Nirvana in the on/off nature of this song. I was also channeling Pendulum, when writing the song. Lie down in … Read more
Joona explains how the fourth album was named. “It’s all about looking back, trying to figure out how you got to where you are. Forensic investigation of your own past.” Watch the video to learn more about the thoughts behind the upcoming album.
We did a bunch of live songs at the Unzyme Proving Ground. After recording the other songs that we had originally planned to record, we had time for one more. This was shot in one take. The Completionist is definitely one of our favorite songs to play live, as it is very energetic and playful.
“Until the guilt is forgiven” was recorded at Unzyme’s band rehearsal at the Unzyme Proving Ground in August 2020. Tech-wise our rehearsals don’t really differ from a proper show, so it’s good to record the state of the band on video, from time to time. This song was released in 2017 on our third album, … Read more
Taike (Arts Promotion Centre Finland) has awarded a working grant to me (Joona), which will enable almost two months of compositional work towards the fourth (and possibly portions of the fifth) Unzyme album. I wonder if we should start using the same naming convention as the legendary German pop sensation, Modern Talking, where they always … Read more
Unzyme’s keyboardist, Daniel Lawrence arranged a new song of ours in a rather grandiose way. We’ve always liked strings, but lately that love has actualized in many string-heavy songs, including “Never leave the shipyard”, “Harder to breathe”, “Tension”, “About to explode” and “Dust on the shelves” – all from the upcoming album.
Ville is now busier than ever, finishing his thesis on CRISPR, so we can’t perform or rehearse like we normally do. This led us to think about alternative ways of working, one of which is to write new arrangements for old songs. We did a couple of new arrangements – an acoustic guitar arrangement of … Read more
Our latest music video can now be called award-winning. It won the Wavvy Music Accolades’ Best Music Video award. Whoo! “This sci-fi flick was shot in a real particle accelerator lab, making this video objectively one of the coolest of all time. Where my geeks at? With Neuralink being developed by Elon Musk, the idea … Read more
Unzyme’s latest music video, Nerve cells, was featured on Electrozombies TV, a monthly list of cool new synthpop music videos.
The coronavirus outbreak has crippled the whole live music industry. One of the many victims is Brummi, a live venue in Rauma (Finland), which is run by a friend of ours. We’d like to offer our help by streaming a live show from the Unzyme Proving Ground, with all donations going straight to Brummi. The … Read more
“Nerve cells remixed” EP will be released on May 8th. This remix EP will feature remixes by PihkaSound, Mind Waker and Unzyme’s keyboardist Daniel Lawrence, also known as Dalziel. Track listing Nerve cells (PihkaSound remix) Nerve cells (Dalziel remix) Nerve cells (Mind Waker remix) The Nerve cells remixed EP cover photo, and the photo of … Read more
Nerve cells is the second single from Unzyme’s upcoming album. Some of our songs have science fiction themes. This is one of two scifi songs on the fourth Unzyme album. As a long-time fan of science fiction movies and games, I always find it fascinating to write about possible futures. Songs like Extinction, Wargame and … Read more
One of our long-time fans told us to never change the logo, because it’s tattooed in her hand. I never really wanted to change the logo – I admire the bands that have held on to their logo, no matter how unfashionable it may have become in the current aesthetic landscape. My favorite Swedish band, … Read more
Unzyme’s live keyboardist, Mary Violet has left the band. There was no drama or hard feelings – we have parted ways in good terms. Mary decided to go all in on her dream of becoming a music therapist, and that meant that she had to leave a lot of things behind. Mary has been overly … Read more
Unzyme will release the music video for a new song called “Nerve cells” on April 3, 2020. The video was shot at a particle accelerator laboratory at The University of Jyväskylä.
Unzyme’s fourth album is about 70% done. It will be released in the fall of 2020. No specific release date has been set yet. We’re really excited about this release, because it’s going to be a very versatile album. These are all relatively new songs, all composed after the release of Transplant. On Transplant, there … Read more
