I built a nice Gear Vending Machine for Unzyme, to sell band merchandise at our experiments. Soon I realized that the merchandise system needed a cool way to present the prices. I listed a few requirements that had to be met. It needed to be…
- Compact and lightweight
- Cool-looking and attention-stealing
- An erasable surface that can be written on with a whiteboard marker
- Illuminated
- Battery powered
And so the Luminous Price Board was born. It’s still just a prototype, but it already looks pretty cool! The prices aren’t final…

Materials needed for this project
- Plexi glass (30 by 30 centimeter blocks, 3 mm thick)
- Two pairs of hinges (the other pair is not visible in this prototype)
- Three battery powered LED lights
- Epoxy glue
- Whiteboard marker and eraser
Watching a lot of Mythbusters really inspires to build stuff!
